@itsamymillie: And to be clear, I’m not suggesting that life hasn’t been hard on you, but I am saying that sometimes we can spend years convincing ourselves that life has actually trapped us. But in some cases the deeper truth is that we’re staying faithful to an old pattern because it feels safer than facing the unknown. The confrontation is then: are we ready to stop repeating the past, even if it terrifies us to do so?

Absolutely! Often it’s survival we’ve learned that particular behaviours keep us “safe” or “certain”, and those behaviours we’re likely functional and helpful at one time in our lives, but we can get to the point we realise they are a hinderance and may still choose to do them because they feel safe and familiar, change is hard and needs to intentional to break those ingrained “safe” feeling habits that are actually keeping us stuck

This is literally what I’ve been thinking the past couple of weeks, im currently trying daily affirmations for the first time, so every day I write/say: “I’m not just a victim of circumstance, I have agency.” I still have to actually make it reality/make those choices but I think this might be the first step. Thanks for your insights, always find them really inspiring! ❤

Very true! The way I’ve been thinking about it is: it’s not my fault that trauma has made me come up with these behaviors to survive. But now that I see them and see how I’m keeping myself stuck, it’s up to me now to put in the work to heal myself. It’s not my fault but it is my responsibility. 💕

Told my therapist this, this morning. I know change needs to happen, but I’m scared of change. Just have to shed that bias I have on myself, and let myself fly.

Such deep truth. It’s easy to stay in familiar pain because it feels safe, but real freedom begins when we choose the scary unknown over old patterns✨
