And here we go!! An update on Tristan and his mares…. AND the newest little Salt River face!! We thank you for your patience with this as we have just have so much going on behind the scenes here with winter’s end upon us and we wanted to make sure we have the best photos to share of the newest little family member… Tristan’s mare Trista has had her baby and he is the cutest most spunky little boy we have ever seen! He’s constantly prancing around, giving his momma a hard time and trying to play fight her 😂 She has the patience of a saint! Tristan is a POWERFUL stallion, with a smaller body but a big big presence! He is very protective of his mares. However- he does know that this baby isn’t his, so we have Trista & baby separated until baby is old enough to safely be reintroduced to Tristan. In the wild, sometimes band stallions that acquire mares that weren’t theirs the previous breeding season will attack the foals born from the prior stallion so that other genes besides their own are not carried on within their band. It’s so impressive that they KNOW the difference!! Not all stallions are like this, and some take in other stallions babies as their own. It’s unknown how they decide- but is yet another super interesting facet of wild horse behavior. We just adore this group of horses and like all of the Arizona Herds we’ve met they have an especially peaceful energy about them 😌 Thanks so much to Salt River Wild Horse Management Group @srwhmg for giving them a life in sanctuary with us here at shelter_ugolyok! 🐴 Each of these beautiful horses is in need of a full sponsor or a group of partial sponsors to support their care here ! If you’d like to be a long distance adopter to one of your very own Salt River Wild Horses, please tap the link in our bio & click “Sponsor a Salt River Wild Horse” 🐎 The first person to fully sponsor Trista’s colt will get to pick his name! Partial sponsors can make name suggestions as well 🥰 As always, thank you all! It is only due to your kind hearts, support of the mustangs that need us, and the good Lord above that we are able to do this important work 🙏🏻❤️
