@cleoabram: This new train is driving itself, and it’s changing the way stuff gets to you! Traditional trains are great for long routes, but for smaller towns shipments can sit for days until there’s enough to justify a huge train to carry it. The solution? Creating autonomous trains…and this is how they work. For more optimistic science and technology, follow along! #train #engineering #selfdriving #technology
ugh we have 3X as many railways as highways and still no high speed commuter rail?????

about once a year a (scam) company announces this and looks for a bunch of money from investors. Adam Something on YouTube has documented a fair few of these. One of the reasons this concept doesn't work is because the cost of the driver is effectively negligible, and youre getting rid of the driver by effectively turning each carriage into its own seperate car, which gets rid of most of the benefits of having a train in the first place. so basically you've just massively increased the running cost of the train, which only makes the "fewer trains to remote areas" problem worse, because now it's much harder for a train to actually be profitable. 🤦 We don't need new tech to make rail good, we need policy changes to stop train companies running ridiculous markups to make themselves rich while screwing over everyone else. Also, Cleo: this was all quite easy information to know or find out instead of making this video, and the fact that you didn't is an extremely poor indictment on your journalistic skills.

CSX is going to try to shunt one of these across the Northeast Corridor and (given freight rail’s allergy to safety) it breaking down and getting obliterated by the Acela at 160 mph. The answer isn’t Tech. Its Nationalization

Regarding mode split, truck vs railroad. The federal govt has spent the equivalent of trillions on roads and relatively little on rail.

Great, now the trains can drive themselves… but I still can't get my Wi-Fi to work properly on a regular commute. 🤔

@giugfsgu: The US has 4.2 Million miles of highway vs 136000 miles of railway tracks. Where did you get that 3X number?
