My mom put my in primarily white environments and then criticized by black identity.

Yup!!!! Same. Only I grew up predominantly around Black people and now I live in a mixed city, but I’m always more comfortable in Black and POC spaces.

Say that! I am a biracial woman who was adopted by a white family. Looking back on my upbringing, I realize my own mother was very racist. I did not realize this until my adult years. So many things… I can write a book!

as a delivery driver I literally am in fear every time I walk up to a door knowing it's a white neighborhood usually gated communities. just waiting for a gun to get pulled on me for dropping off what they ordered. always get looked at like I'm not supposed to be there. or how did I get through the gate.

Same, I’m always on guard. And it doesn’t help that I get confused for Hispanic. It’s like a double issue 🤣

I grew up in baltimore city where it is predominantly black and I feel much more comfortable with black people and it’s rare for me to feel comfortable with white people

I was raised around my black side so going around my white side was torture. I caught on to all the micro aggression real fast. I wouldn't even eat my mom's families food

I’m sorry to hear this. Ik it’s even more confusing and difficult for mixed children raised in those environments and black children raised in those environments. It’s tough!

My adoptive mom would have me check off Caucasian/White on school documents when I was growing up, I tell this to the people around me (predominantly white) and they just dont seem to get it.

Exactly! So much of it was just seen as normal I didn’t realize it was actually someone being racist towards me until I got older. Heavy on the backhanded compliments

Same exact experiences my whole life. Was raised by my white great grandparents (who never said anything out of line), but I went to white private school and live in a white neighborhood. Even with family. Named my child after my grandparents that raised me, and my uncle said people are gonna look at her crazy being named after white people and she’s black. SMH
