@nofret_egypt_: ‼️Ancient Egypt - Temple of Hatshepsut‼️ #egypt The Djeser-Djeseru, the mortuary temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahri, is one of the masterpieces of ancient Egyptian architecture. Built in the 15th century BCE by her architect Senenmut, it rises in three terraces connected by ramps and harmoniously blends with the cliffs of western Thebes. Colonnades, chapels, and halls are richly decorated with reliefs showing Hatshepsut’s divine birth, her expedition to Punt, and rituals to Amun, underlining her legitimacy as pharaoh. The temple functioned as her funerary cult center and as a stage for major religious festivals. After her reign, many of its images were defaced, and later centuries brought further destruction, but its grandeur remains clear. Since 1961, a Polish–Egyptian mission from the University of Warsaw has been excavating, restoring, and reconstructing the site, re-erecting porticoes, preserving reliefs, and reopening decorated rooms.
