I did the same. My son was not thriving in public school. Pulled him out. We did Aba clinic. That was even worse, again pulled him out. I built a sensory classroom in my house & he is thriving.

I get s angry when someone mentions sending my son to a facility. They’re not the ones dealing with it, we are. If that time comes we will know. But until then we need positive uplifting words, not to be beaten when we’re already down.

I think people just need to leave this child alone. He is developing on his own when it comes to. I have my own grandson who is autistic and we just do what is good for him and he treats us well.

I had to it my youngest into a group home after my spouse passed. Try to make it work at home hon. But, nothing wrong with group home placement either. It depends on each individual. Hugs and love. ❤

My daughter is 26 now and we still deal with very serious behavior issues. But there is no other home for her than with me.

People sometimes forget that residential homes aren’t the right fit for everyone, and that’s okay. I’ve known so many former clients who felt much happier and more at peace living back with their families. My brother who is autistic, still lives with my mom and he’s doing really well. Sometimes home really can be the best place, and there’s nothing wrong with choosing what makes your loved one feel safe and happy.

I'm so scared for you sometimes. I know at home is best for the both of you. But, he is getting so big, so fast. I'm so fearful of the day He over powers and hurts you. Unintentionally of course. What can be done to prevent this? I see safe hands has been working. you also are doing ana amazing job BTW 👏

Can I ask you something? Does solo still use vests? I’m just wondering because I need one but I don’t know if a weighted vest or compression vest is better for school.

You can do it. It was suggested last year my son go into a residential placement and I started to seriously consider it. Then I finally got him into a new dr who listened and got meds adjusted and that helped. He ended the school year being homebound and it was rough but we made it. Then over the summer he made so much progress the aggression disappeared almost completely. We have a good routine now. I made the choice to pull him and homeschool him and he’s made so much progress. Things are still hard and this week has been the roughest we’ve had in over 6 months. But he’s 12 and hitting puberty so I know I’m in for a rough couple months but I’m so much more comfortable with being able to redirect and regulate him now that I’m not as worried as I was last year.

If he lives in a residential home, he can still go home with you any time you or him want to! I worked in a program where a woman (resident) basically still lived with her parents but had a full room there for when she wanted to stay there. When he joins a program, you’ll have case workers and nurses helping with a goal plan for him. Sometimes it’s the structure they need. But home will still be home wherever you are!
