The only people that are able to hold this perception were never targets of that man's rhetoric. I would never condemn a victim if they were unable to feel empathy for their assaulter, and in too many instances that is precisely what he was, whether your lense allowed you to perceive it or not. The way a person dies does not give blanket justification for how they lived, especially if it had very deep impacts on their lives and perceptions of their fellow man, by exposing their ingrained intolerance, especially under the guise of faith. God is not a get out of jail free card for cruelty. And he may appear rightous to you, but to many he was a voice we recognized from our youth, those that told us we aren't welcome.
