honestly this is the first one of these that I've seen that makes sense to me. lightning bolt doesn't send the card to the graveyard, it deals dmg, which then resolves and since it has no more health, it moves to graveyard.

I don't hate Dave, I hate magic for having too complex rules 😅

Square Treasure :
So when something deals damage it doesn’t go directly to the graveyard. Attacking a creature lowers the toughness of another creature by its power so it would go directly to the graveyard yes?

I don’t hate Dave. I love Dave. He does an invaluable service. I hate that his service is necessary so frequently

I'm not buying the explanation it states any action caused by your opponent that puts you land in a graveyard you can put it back and play the casting of the lightning bolt is an action caused by your opponent damage done by the lightning bolt kills the creature land, which caused it to go into the graveyard, which means the opponent action caused to go in using a spell, so put the land back and play

but would it return as a creature or as the unmodified land?

sacred ground still resolves. by your logic or by Sullivans logic. it's still a land being put into the graveyard by a spell

wait let me get this straight. so if something like dismember would in theory get rid of a Indestructible creature, wouldn't for that same reason lightning bolt work?

Im_DiceRing :
wait.. so if i make all lands 1/1 and then ping them all...it wont trigger things that say "lands entering the grave yard" or anything like that?

EXPLAINING THE RULES TO BAD PLAYERS IS THE PROPER THING TO DO. Rules lawyer is the hero as always. Also this is the same rule as don’t bolt the 2/3 goyf.

I am having trouble figuring out if your opponent used a card like Accursed Marauder that makes you sac the land creature, would this be an effect putting it in the graveyard or a state base?

Dizaster studios :
we dont hate you dave 😁 rule lawyers keep the game honest, and that way nobodys cheating, or misunderstanding their cards and being called cheaters. you guys are a neccesary inclusion to the community. its all about how you approach explaining the rules. 😌 as emeric emerson (i probably butchered his name) said. "you can be right, but wrong at the top of your voice"

Dave. You’re not the villain. You’re just the guy going over the game that is way too complex and does not work as the devs intended. I don’t like what you have to say sometimes. But you say it because thems the rules.

LillySong :
the problem with Dave is explaining rules as a gotcha. the better way to do it is to talk through how the thing would resolve before forcing it to resolve, this would let Sullivan understand the interaction without just punishing them for it.
