@susan_analytics: Academia and industry have been speaking different languages for too long. It’s time they sat at the same table. #FutureOfWork #Education #IndustryCollaboration #Innovation #TalentDevelopment
Even most university professors have no industry experience. The disconnect between education and required talent is wide, and widening

People still don't get it, they are blaming the education system for economic problems. The problem is the economy. School will never be industries. It is illogical and absurd to even imagine that schools should turn children into industry workers. It is also irrational to imagine that schools should be turned into factories. No, no, no. Let's open our economy and have the industries. Training hands on skills does not take years. Certain things are better learnt through work itself. If we have an economy that does not support employment how do you expect you will have experts. Experts come from work. Create working platforms and people will work.

This is way overdue... I have a friend who is in the IT world working for an international org, he gave me a sneak peek of what they do and I tell you the academia, especially in the public unis ... are worlds apart from the industry.

The challenge is old men and women in academia. I recently had a debate with some physics students and professors, you would hear the brilliant thinking and approach of the students but the professors were stuck in the past, on their heroes and specific fields where they excel with theories that are now getting filled with holes.
To change academia we need to change leadership every other few years. Have you tried to do masters or PHD in this country? Academia also became corrupt, research says what the funder wants it to say.

The fact that I have found myself hiring and now a founder. you're straight on point. it's better having a self taught dev than software engineers from your glorified universities. it's almost annoying, their cv sounds good but solving problems nope.

In TVET, industry is involved coming up with Occupational Standards which guide training in our workshops.
Dual training, a concept where trainees spend a half their training in college workshops and the other half in industry doing real work, helps align skills with industry requirements.
The latest is a curriculum that is broken down into modules where trainees acquire employable skills in each module.

I actually think universities should allow part time lecturers from industry but this is not happening. Curriculum should also incorporate case studie

this is why I don't want to study in a university any more. When you complete your first degree or finish S6...you can do online course (Udemy / Coursera) that are more current than a degree

you have no idea how right you are, am literally being forced to relearn most of things now that I should have had a chance to do back in school, despite having a tech degree. I wouldn't wish this even on my worst enemy.

I once wrote such Proposal in Zimbabwe. I did a presentation that was welcomed by most lecturers, but however when the matter was taken to the next level so that it could be adopted, there were bottlenecks and setbacks including resistance until I gave up.
