@_kingie_: It’s harder to tell the truth when you’ve been lying to yourself. You tell a lie for so long that it starts to sound like the truth. You put up a version of yourself you think the world will find more palatable, and after a while… you forget who you really are. I know we say “fake it till you make it,” but sometimes the change isn’t meant to happen from the outside in. It has to happen from the inside out. A lot of what I share here is rooted in honesty, but I realised how difficult it was to be honest here when I hadn’t yet been honest with myself. I’ve talked about getting your spark back before, and I’ve come to understand something: part of reclaiming your spark is learning to be radically honest with yourself. Honesty means facing the things you’ve done to yourself. The mistakes you made. The parts of you you’ve shoved away, buried, hidden — even from yourself. And that’s hard, especially when we created these versions to protect ourselves. The truth is uncomfortable. But the world doesn’t need a watered-down, edited, “acceptable” version of you.
