It would be better to donate to public (kill) shelters. “No-kill” shelters are simply private shelters that turn away animals they don’t have room for. Public shelters must take any animal that is brought to them regardless of if they have space meaning they are forced to euthanize some. Shunning and boycotting public shelters does not help the problem it actually makes the problem worse. I’m not saying never donate to private shelters but if you’re able to volunteer or foster for a public shelter and/or donate food/toys/money I would always recommend it so they aren’t forced to euthanize the animals in their care!

Lovely man, and I hope we can dispel the myth that we should only support no-kills. Regular shelters are forced to take every animal, while no-kills get to pick and choose. More support for normal shelters would help them save more animals, too!
