But it's never actually that simple, people tend to forget that humans desire connection and love, and to just simply walk away is easier said than done, you value the connection you had and it's deeply embedded to you so to just away would have a serious impact on your person. That being said, you don't have to subject yourself to such a selfish person and can choose to step away from it, not saying it would be easy, but it would be better for your health. Healing takes time, and time takes it's course, allow yourself to grow and live past a person like, be worth more than a insecurity or a burden.
