@dr.jamo: Replying to @michelleevers757 🚨 Why NPO before anesthesia actually matters 🚨 | Standard vs RSI explained 🍔➡️😴 Description: Ever wonder what happens if you eat before surgery? In anesthesia, we normally use a standard induction, but if your stomach isn’t empty, we switch to a rapid sequence induction (RSI) to protect your airway and reduce the risk of aspiration. Your safety is always the priority—that’s why fasting rules are so important! 🙏 #Anesthesia #MedicalTok #PatientSafety #npo #surgery @Lauren_Jamison @DJ87 @Hailey Jamison @in_her_corner @Hunter @KJS1977
Yep. Optimizable risks vs benefits. When there’s a time crunch we’re willing to take risks in one area to lessen risks in other areas. But when we have time we optimize the patient to decrease as many risks and we can.

Okay, so regular pleb here. If you put someone under anaesthesia and don't breathe for them, do they die? As in are their lungs paralyzed too? You mentioned needing to breathe for them at the start.

I'm j-tube dependent and last surgery they wanted feeds stopped the 12 hours before? wouldn't nutrition into the j-tube not have the aspiration risk like a stomach would?

I have aortic stenosis and had an emergency C-section under general anesthesia with a full stomach and BP lower than 80/40. The anesthesiologist's blood pressure was probably much higher than usual😂😂😂

Question—why do some patients have to have a breathing treatment -albuterol-after anesthesia?

So no pumping the stomach? Or is that only for certain types of surgeries that might be extremely long?

Great video… i am just thinking what means full stomach? What if someone just ate one banana? Is that also full stomach or it has to be more food?

in certain situations would using an emetic be useful to empty the stomach and reduce the risk? im sure it's not safe in most emergency situations but is that something that is done at all?
