This has been my season of yes. If I get invited to something and I am not otherwise engaged, I say yes. I’m meeting new people and I’m getting out of my comfort zone. I know this type of all or nothing philosophy isn’t realistic long term, but right now it’s helping me figure what I am actually capable of, what I enjoy, and how to add this into my schedule. That said it’s sometimes the last thing I want to do. This is the part about making friends people don’t really talk about. It can be painful. It’s awkward. It’s often uncomfortable. Lots of the time you mentally don’t know how you’ll do it. That said, after feeling tremendously lonely through out my surgery journey, I promised myself I would do what I needed to do to never feel that way again. I’m learning through this that building a community also means showing up even when you don’t want to, trying things you may not like, and being uncomfortable until you’re not. For the record, I’ve never felt comfortable at events. Ever. So I stopped going. The gym has taught me that consistency and perserveranve can turn a place that feels overwhelming into a place that feels safe. You just gotta get through that uncomfortable stage. So here I am in that awkward phase, reminding you that it exists, it’s stinks, but it’s worth finding your through. Just give it time and keep showing up. 💕 @B.Yellowtail @Idyllwind
