Our Premier Pro team faced Bundesliga club FC Union Berlin U17 in their 3rd match of the season, ending in a 4-2 loss. Despite the result, our talented North American players showed resilience and growth against top German competition. Since coming together on August 29, the team has been working hard in training to raise their performance levels and tactical understanding, preparing for increasingly challenging matches. Head Coach Florian Matk says,
Our Premier Pro team faced Bundesliga club FC Union Berlin U17 in their 3rd match of the season, ending in a 4-2 loss. Despite the result, our talented North American players showed resilience and growth against top German competition. Since coming together on August 29, the team has been working hard in training to raise their performance levels and tactical understanding, preparing for increasingly challenging matches. Head Coach Florian Matk says, "Overall, we were satisfied with the game. We started very well with high pressing and forced Union into mistakes during their build-up play, which consequently led to us scoring the 1:0 and creating further chances. In general, we had very good phases of possession and reacted well with counter-pressing after losing the ball. We went into halftime as the better team, although it was 1:1, since we admittedly lost intensity in the last 10 minutes before the break. After halftime, we came out with fresh momentum, resumed high pressing, and took the lead again at 2:1. Unfortunately, we couldn't maintain the result, and we couldn't keep up our rhythm, which ultimately led to a deserved defeat. Nevertheless, the team has developed well and deservedly scored two goals against a U17 Bundesliga team, holding their own for long stretches of the match." Performance Coach Francis Kioyo says, "Very happy about the performance. It’s not just about the result against a very good Bundesliga team— it’s about how we played, how we grew together in just 5 weeks. The boys follows the tactical instruction and are finally on a good physical level to start enjoying this game. Can‘t wait for more".
