@hamasamakun: And this is why we don’t use EXP in D&D #LanguageLearning #dnd #dndtiktok #dnd5e #dndmeme #dndtok #dndhumor #dndoc #dndmemes #dndfam #dungeonsanddragons #ttrpg
400 pounds is roughly 48 times the size of an ant? You seen many 8.5lb ants walking around?

unfortunately this argument falls apart when you remember swarm rules are a thing

"there's no official statblock for a regular ant" there's one for the ant colony, though. Swarm of Insects is a CR 1/2 creature that gives 100xp. you won't even get to level 2 with that.

Ummmm, bad math? The largest living ant is the Giant Forest Ant, with the largest caste being the soldier at 372mg; at 450k mg per lb, it would take 483,871 of the largest ants on the planet to equal one Giant Ant. Now with there being between 200-3k of those ants in a colony (1.6k avg), you would need around 300 colonies just to get 450 xp, for an average of 1.5xp per colony... so you would have to do to about 233k ant colonies, of the largest ants on the planet.

by the rules I also imagine a lvl 1 adventurer would die before defeating 35 thousand plus ants through minimum damage and action economy.

Except they would be treated as a swarm, still at cr0.

The math is off. If a giant ant weighs 400 pounds, saying that it’s 48x larger than a normal ant would put a normal ant at 8.3 pounds. And that’s just not it

soggytoppings :
I belive a 4ft tall ant would be more than 48 normal ants, first guess is square it sooo ant exp= 450/(48^2) = 0.2 ish exp rounds down you get null OR you'd need 1,775,000 ants...so like 2 ant hills minimum I guess idk

WinnableHydra :
I think the ant hill would be treated as a swarm, which is typically one creature

I know its a joke but to answer the question, it wouldn't work. It would all be based on the DM's interpretation. Additionally, I've always considered innocent or helpless creatures to he worth 0 xp since players are already swing happy it prevents farming "enemies." since the and the ants are unaware of the parties' actions and have done little to no harm/annoyances to anyone they would be classified a not hostile and helpless, so no XP
