Due to family commitments I was unable to attend the event yesterday. After the programme, however, I had the chance to meet Jeremy Corbyn at Cllr Shoab Akhtar’s house. I am grateful to Cllr Shoab Akhtar for his kind invitation. I have known his family since I moved to Oldham in 1986, and throughout the years they have always been there for us, offering help and support whenever needed. During my conversation with Jeremy Corbyn, I was able to put a number of questions to him and shared my views on the importance of investing in public services, particularly in education, employment, and training. I also raised the need to support our elderly and pensioners, and stressed that fairness and equity must guide how we treat people locally, nationally, and internationally. I reminded him that we had met around eight years ago during Question Time in Oldham, and he said he remembered it. For clarity, I am not affiliated with any political party. I have friends and relatives across different parties, and I believe that regardless of our political affiliations we must respect each other. We should never resort to bullying, intimidation, or harassment simply because we disagree on political views. Kindness and respect must always come first.
