On March 7, 2007, Garuda Flight 200 was descending toward Yogyakarta, Indonesia. But during the approach, the Boeing 737 was far too fast and coming in at a dangerously steep angle. Inside the cockpit, the pilots struggled to slow the aircraft — yet the captain kept pushing the nose down, ignoring repeated warnings from the systems and from the first officer. The jet hit the runway at high speed, bounced, and skidded off into a field, bursting into flames. Out of 140 people, 21 lost their lives — many trapped by the fire. The investigation revealed a harsh truth: the captain suffered loss of situational awareness, ignored the first officer’s calls to go around, and continued a landing that should have been aborted.
