Niemcy in Polish, Niemy still means mute, so it's like people who don't know the language, people who can't speak.

In Polish we also say "jeździć na saksy", so like "to go to Saxony", which specifically refers to seasonal work in Germany :D

Lot and have a lot of different forms for all countries that we interacted with like a countries that invaded us or we traded with we have a different names than most people, for example Russians ar called Krievi or Estonians igauņi I think we are the only ones who called them like that and Finland is somia Sweden is zviedria and another interesting fact is Baltic language is until 13 or 12 sanctuary didn't use the letters p h that means a lot of words were improvised xd

as a German I have never heard most of these but it's so interesting! I wonder if the many different versions have to do with the kind of recent unification (like 200 years ago)?

Do you have an informative rant on why Dutch is called "Dutch" in English? As it's called "Nederlands" in dutch, "Nederlandsk" in Norwegian, "Holandês" in Portuguese, etc. The Nederlands-Holandês difference makes sense, because Holland was one of the Nether Lands at one point in history - But is Dutch called "Dutch" because the Brits confused it with "Deutsch"? I had someone once try to convice me I spoke German, when I speak Dutch 😂

i find it so interesting how our country has so many different names while with other countries a huge part of the world agrees in the general idea of how to call the country. but to be fair we used to be small regions for a long time before becoming one country and our combined language only came with luthers translation of the bible

Fun fact: In the area we call Germany today, we did not call ourselves German for most of the time, but rather Saxons, Bavarians, Swabians, Alemanni, Frisians, Prussians, etc. Before 1871, there were just a bunch of principalities, duchies, and kingdoms.
