Be Patient, Steadfast, and United .. The 1936 Call That Still Echoes .. In 1936, as Palestinians rose up against British occupation and mass displacement, the Arab Higher Committee delivered a message to the people .. a speech that would shape the soul of Palestinian resistance for generations. Broadcast from Jerusalem and printed in papers like Filastin and al-Difa‘, it urged ordinary men, women, and children to remain steadfast .. to hold their ground even when their homes and fields were under threat. “Be patient, steadfast, and united. Hold firm to your faith and your land. The hour of trial has come, and your endurance will be your weapon. Do not despair .. for this land is yours and your children’s after you.” Another passage declared: “Stand together in steadfastness and perseverance until God grants us victory and restores our right to our homeland.” That word .. ṣumūd (صمود) .. became more than just a slogan. It became a way of life. To remain on the land. To rebuild what is destroyed. To endure hunger, siege, and exile .. and still plant olive trees in the rubble.
