@fascinatedbyfungi: Part I of my walk in the woods during September in Massachusetts. In this video I show you how to identify Turkey Tail (Trametes versicolo), show you wood stained turquoise by Green Elf Cup (Chlorociboria), brilliant red Pine Sap (Monotropa hypopytis) a mycohetereotrophic plant living on the mycelium of Russulas), and I demonstrate how to do a “nibble and spit” test to assess the palatability of a mushroom (not useful for determining toxicity, but can help you avoid bitter and spicy/acrid species - most useful for Brittlegills and Milkcaps/Lactarius). . Hope you’re able to spend some quality time outdoors this fall, keep an eye out for mushies, especially when the rain comes and the temps drop at night. Cheers! . . #mushroomidentification #naturewalk #mycology #mushroomedu #turkeytail
