I have taught a handful of people now. The biggest thing I tell them to do during off season if they want to learn, is to get really good at using a ripstick. The upper body and foot use translates almost directly to snowboarding. Give it a shot!

When you hit the slopes don’t be ashamed to give the bunny hill a few runs to practice. My best advice for teaching yourself how to snowboard is go down the mountain only heel side breaking as many times needed until you feel really comfortable doing that. You will learn how to correct yourself when you start sliding left or right. Next go down toe side only breaking, so backwards down the mountain as many times as needed until you feel comfortable. Again you will learn how to correct yourself, meaning you will get the feel for turning a little bit. Next you will start heel side and learn how to do a controlled turn into toe side break and stop. For this you need to lean forward as if you’re going to grab the front end of your board, it’ll make it much more smooth of a turn. Control is key when learning, don’t forget to keep your knees bent always, and turn with your shoulders (point where you wanna turn) not your feet
