The truth is, most guys don’t forget how to love when they’re broke. But in Nigeria, being broke can make you feel invisible. You might have all the love in your heart, but once your pockets are empty, it feels like love doesn’t count anymore. Relationships these days are built on high standards, and most girls don’t notice the guy who is still struggling and trying to build his future. They only look at the one who already has more to spend.
And if we’re being real, most relationships are one-sided. The guy is always the one giving giving his time, his effort, his money, his sacrifices while the girl claims what she offers is her body. Some even go as far as saying that their “value” in a relationship is the kissing, the smooching, the intimacy, forgetting that both of them actually enjoy those things together. It makes love feel cheap, like it’s only measured in what a guy can provide financially.
So when a man is broke, he pulls back. Not because he doesn’t know how to love, but because he feels like he’s not enough. Deep down, he knows his love is real, but society and sometimes even the person he’s trying to love convinces him that without money, his love is useless. That’s the painful part: it’s not that he doesn’t know how to love, it’s that the world makes him believe his love is too cheap to matter.
