XAS :
Note: Malay (Bahasa Melayu) is the indigenous language of Singapore, spoken by the native people. English is the second main language, and Tamil — brought by South Indian Tamils — is the third.
The Tamil language belongs to the Dravidian family, which has its origins in the ASI (Ancestral South Indian) population, along with its sibling Dravidian languages. Tamil is one of the ASI/Dravidian languages — not separate from them, but a branch of the same family.
There is no scientific proof that Tamil is linguistically related to Australian Aboriginal languages. The connection is not through language but through shared deep ancestry. Genetics shows that there were ancient movements of people — Australian Aboriginal groups may have reached the Indian subcontinent, and ASI/Dravidian groups may have traveled to places like Australia, Fiji, and South America.
The ASI/Dravidian peoples (including Tamil speakers) are connected to the Indus Valley Civilization and sites like Keeladi, long before Sanskrit-speaking peoples arrived from Iran or Central Asia.
ASI also shares genetic ancestry with Adivasis in different amounts. In Southeast Asia, the Munda tribes (who speak Austroasiatic languages) also carry some ancient Australian Aboriginal genetic links. Before the Munda migration, the region had Dravidian-related peoples, and after their arrival, some Munda populations admixed with Dravidians.
This is why even today we see diverse appearances across India and Southeast Asia —the richness comes from layers of shared ancestry, not separation.
As for Sri Lanka, it is actually further in sea travel compared to Southeast Asia (Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia), which were more natural routes for ancient Dravidian/ASI migrations, some reaching as far as Oceania. Tamil is not “different” or “foreign” from other Dravidian languages. It is a major sibling language within the Dravidian family, just as Telugu,Kannada, and Malayalam are.To claim that Tamil is somehow “separate” is like saying one sibling is not part of the family because they live in a different house. Singapore recognizes Tamil due to South Indian migration, but this does not mean Tamil is outside the Dravidian/ASI roots.
