@fightingformyvoice: Replying to @xxsweeetpeaxx Parents, did you know this? While results are not immediate, it’s the more reason to model AAC usage! 💙💙 #aac #aacawareness
my son had ZERO words and by 5 he was using his device and had basic words...now at 12 he have 4/5 word sentences.

thank you for this! I just feel like if I don't see immediate results then there's a chance my student won't pick up acc. I think I just need to be patient and encourage others to model the device

AAC really helped my son. In preschool, he could barely combine 2 syllables verbally. Months after receiving his device, he was saying full sentences using it. After that, he started mimicking what his device was saying verbally. By second grade, he ditched his AAC device (preferring verbal speech). He still uses a computer to help with written speech, but no longer needs his AAC device for spoken speech. I did a lot of back & forth with him on the device. It’s like learning a new language. They need to be shown examples to learn it well.

My son has been working with a therapist and myself for over a year with his device. We model it as well. I tried suggesting a different app because I feel like the one he’s using is way too complicated. I was told just because it’s overwhelming to me doesn’t mean it’s overwhelming to him. He’s just not getting it! Any advice is very welcome!
