The moment anyone mentions Australian obscenity laws I think of Hotline Miami 2. A game that is banned in Australia for a brief SA scene that isn't graphic and is also completely fictional within the universe of the game. While discussing more extreme stuff is definitely important, it's a fine example of how out of hand their obscenity laws are.

I am Australian and deeply disgusted at my country a lot of the time, but I cant speak out much about this kind of thing without risking being called a pdf file or similar, there is also a bad culture around not standing out (tall poppy) so that would tie into it. I am not smart enough to be a leader but I wish I could be to help people see the truth, I don't know what I can realistically do in a small town in the countries most conservative state, all of this is so worrying

this video happened to pop up on my feed randomly and it is so refreshing to finally see someone else with common sense in this app 😭😭 im from a country where the government is devolving into a dictatorship that started with censorship and it makes me so upset to see people saying they want to take down things that make them uncomfortable. they dont realise that censorship will come for them too and not just for the things that are “icky” but whenever i try to tell them that i get called a “p3d0” and a “white supremacist” for some reason 😭😭 sorry about the long comment

People who aren't bothered about what's going on in other countries, especially allies, concern me. To a degree direct or not there's influence. My dad hates I'm super involved with the USA but not only do I have my partner over there and friends, but they sneeze, the UK catches a cold. It's also small minded for people to call your degree degenerate considering it's an important one and there's more to it than surface level what they're probably seeing/summing it up to.
