I've always used the analogy that a good dnd game is The Princess Bride not Monty Python.

I do like the Legolas comparison. He does goofy stuff in the movies for the sake of looking cool, but the rule of cool does have a limit.

When they try to do impossible things, not hard things, impossible things. Some things are so easy I don't make you roll, you just do that. Some things are so hard, you just don't get to do that. Rolls are for things that MIGHT work.

People are being so harsh on Murph. He’s talking about the kind of game he likes to RUN. Based on D20 and side campaigns DMed by others on Naddpod he is clearly okay with being silly.

I feel like goofy things are important in dnd and add a sense of humor to the otherwise dreadful and possibly boring events ahead, it adds a moment for the players to blow off a bit of steam and gives players a moment to reunite and give it their full attention again because its something they incited, not something pushed their way.

Although!!! how much fun would a Looney Tunes campaign be? the adventures might think it's a great idea until they realize the Big Bad is dropping anvils on their head.

It depends on the theme and style of the campaign. I have run from serious to wacky campaigns that experience is why I preach fitting your PC into the setting will let everyone have the most fun.
(I prefer somewhere in the middle of that scale.)

Brennan is such a generous performer/comedian. Giving laughs to things that are not that funny.

I don't think there is anything wrong with this style of play, but it does—ironically—make it harder for me to take it seriously. Strict DMs are more likely to hurt you or the character, so I can't fully invest in the story or characters, because I don't want to be hurt later. That's not fun for me. Gotta be ready to be like "oh, he died? RIP! Anyways, here's my next character."

My first D&D campaign, I sent it in a wheelbarrow down the stairs. Did not go well for me.

That honestly take away player agency. If they can find a creative way to get around a puzzle that they put the effort in to do it, give them the chance to fail. Playing it a “specific” way takes away from someone trying to think of ways around an obstacle. Be mindful and make sure it’s not out of their range of doing things of course but don’t take their chance to be creative.

That's one of the things a group really needs to nail down early. Are we LotR? are we Monty Python? He-man? Conan? Everybody needs to be on the same page.
