@babies_after_35: Fever during pregnancy as a risk factor for neurodevelopmental disorders: results from a systematic review and meta-analysis: Additional evidence supported the association between fever during pregnancy and increased risk for NDD in offspring. Careful monitoring should be considered for children born from mothers with a febrile episode during pregnancy (specifically during the first trimester). Maternal fever during pregnancy and offspring attention deficit hyperactivity disorder: The results indicate that maternal fever in early pregnancy may be a risk factor for ADHD, and particularly for inattention problems. This risk is neither mitigated nor inflated by use of acetaminophen. Infection and Fever in Pregnancy and Autism Spectrum Disorders: Findings from the Study to Explore Early Development: These findings of an association between maternal infection with fever in the second trimester and increased risk of ASD in the offspring suggest that the inflammatory response to the infectious agent may be etiologically relevant. Prenatal fever and autism risk: ASD risk appears to increase with maternal fever, particularly in the second trimester. Risk magnified dose dependently with exposure to multiple fevers after 12 weeks' gestation. Our findings support a role for gestational maternal infection and innate immune responses to infection in the pathogenesis of at least some cases of ASD. #autismawareness #adhd #tylenol

it was irresponsible for doctors to tell me taking Tylenol was SAFE in pregnancy when they don't actually know that.

I'm curious to see if covid in pregnancy increased the rates of autism. I have heard from so many nurses that the placenta of covid patients were funky looking.

I’m terrified pregnant Moms may take an NSAID like aspirin or Advil instead of Tylenol. That would be truly terrible.

I had a tooth removed and all I could take was Tylenol while 14 weeks pregnant. I took it for a week around the clock because my pain was UNBEARABLE ! I was trying to tough it out but my blood pressure was getting high from the pain 😭 now I’m worried about my baby

I was thinking the same thing! We need to start looking at overall maternal health such as stress, pain, mental health as possible triggers for gene expression. I’d also be interested to see how race and socioeconomic status factor in to this process as well.

Currently in specialty training (UK equivalent of residency) to become an ObGyn! This is a really great layman’s explanation of the two-hit hypothesis & will help empower physicians to help address patient concerns that we might see in antenatal & intra-partum care.

I agree inflammation is a likely confounder in all this Tylenol discussion. We still need to treat fevers.

why do all the animal studies show that prenatal acetominaphin causes neurodevelopmental damage? we'll never know why, will we? so I guess we should just give a bunch Tylenol to pregnant humans just to be safe 🤷🤷🤷

Do you think we could do dna myelination testing on pts post immunization or inflammation if they carry autism associated genes?

I don’t remember the source nut it was my understanding that if we check older generations with the current criteria yields similar levels of autism.

It’s more likely this is what worry me now. There is going to be an increased. But there is studies that show this and they stated the fever were a factor. The fear is out now. So some no matter which they do will always think it is their fault.

I don’t think most pregnant women are taking Tylenol for it’s inflammatory properties but more for it’s pain relieving properties. Safe doesn’t always mean it has no effect on the body but rather it means that a medical panel has deemed it safer than the other options. My favorite quote these scientists kept pushing during covid is “The benefits outweigh the risks!”.

There's something I haven't heard mentioned that I was almost sure they were going to try and add to the mix. I exclusively breastfed all my kids. After delivery they gave me Tylenol with codine and sent me home with a prescription (1 time only) for those after birth contractions that ramp way up not just after delivery in general but when you nurse in those early days (they can be so severe you feel like vomiting) I haven't heard anyone mention it, just the theory of taking it while pregnant.
