Let kids be bored. They don’t need constant entertainment 100% of the time. Let kids be kids.

I’m not making accusations, but really curious what a seven and eight year-old could possibly do on a phone. Like for real, whatdid they do?

I have a 13 year old, almost 14. I think I’m going to do this just for her mental health and insecurities. She is at that age where she doesn’t like her looks, her life, her family and etc. I don’t think the social media is helping.

If your daughter has an iPhone, you can lock it down to where she can only use certain apps. So if you want her to only use the call and messaging apps, you can do that from your phone!

We only do electronics on weekends if school week was good. You do what works best for your home 💜

It’s not a lie. You can turn on screen time and it shows you everything. Which apps are open and for how long. How many pick ups each day. All of it. You can set downtime and only allow specific apps/contacts so she can truly only use it to message or call you. I still use that for my 15-year-old to limit Internet access and the ability to download social media. It’s a fantastic tool a huge lifesaver!!

Taking notes 📝 my 7 yr old just asked when he can have a phone, I think I just said when you’re 10 or 13 not sure exactly what I said tbh. But honestly he barely even plays with his switch or tablet. He’s more of a TV kid, sometimes I try to feel it back a bit and it’s HARD on me because then the nonstop questions start. He’s not an independent kid. He needs someone to play with and that someone is always me. Which don’t get me wrong, I do appreciate and love that he wants me to play with him. HOWEVER I’m also a full time student and need to make dinner and clean the house. 😔 I wish there were more hours in the day so I can do it all

Sometimes I feel crazy strict in this age where every kid has electronics but my kids are only allowed tv on Saturdays other than that they color, play or read. Being bored it good for their brains

Bonnie if you are interested there is an EXCELLENT book called The Anxious Generation. It does a great job talking about this very thing. Our school, Highland Christian School along with Crown Point Christian, held a study about this topic for several weeks last year. It was great. I highly recommend.

It’s been 2 months since I took my oldest kids phone away….she gave me a hug yesterday for the first time in FOREVER bc we’re having more conversations. (She doesn’t do physical touch) she’s being nicer to her sisters..she’s making more artwork and writing more stories…I will NOT be giving her phone back…and that’s not a punishment

For car trips my mom made road trip boxes. In them was coloring books, word searches, puzzles, I had a bracelet making string, my brother had hot wheels cars, and we played car games. For the plane we had music to listen to and coloring.

Maybe try some dvd players for the car so they can still watch movies while you travel without having access to a phone!
