No don’t rent a car seat.. I use to do car rental.. they would just throw the car seat into a closet.. I would check the expiration date.. one was two years expired

I know they’re annoying but it’s definitely worth the pain of bringing car seats and strollers. The familiar is so nice for the baby and if you travel enough in a year to make getting tsa pre check for a long period worth it that can make it so much easier. It gets easier the more you travel. You find what works for you little specifically, and for you both.
