Who do you recommend? We always get it through the cruiseline when we book, but I was thinking about getting it through a third party company.

One trip to the medic on a ship will cost you approximately $1000… You must submit it to your insurance. Past experience.

This is another good reason why you should alwsys travel with your passport. You’ll need it to get back home. I got an annual policy, which was a good idea with multiple trips.

So true. We have Allianz and they paid a $5000 Ship ER bill, a 2 car accident involving Porsche and BMW and a luggage replacement all in one year!

Absolutely true!! my husband had a medical emergency on the ship. He had an overnight stay in med on the ship, then sent by ambulance the next morning to a hospital in Domican Repubulic. Total out of pocket was about $12,000. Got home. Filed with our regular insurance (because we had it), but our trip insurance still paid all of the balance after our insurance. We ended having every dime reimbursed. We would NEVER go again without it.

Learned this the hard way .. my mom had a medical emergency and she had to pay over 3,000.00 before they let her off ship .. now she always takes the medical insurance.. lesson learned
