You also have to remember 50 shades was a twilight fan fic originally. A lot of people think it’s supposed to be “the modern secretary” when in all reality it was just a “what if Edward wasn’t a vampire and was a loaded rich CEO with some pretty vanilla kinks” kind of story.

The reason why “the secretary” works and "Fifty Shades of Grey" doesn't is because the main character in "Secretary" is that in that movie we see the protagonist actively pursuing her boss. Although her role is submissive, she ultimately controls the dynamic of their relationship. This is particularly evident in the scene where he says, "We can't do this 24 hours a day," and she responds, "Why not?"
