@cam_eduu: Thailand Using Unilateral Map to Claim Cambodian Land The Thai military, along with some media outlets, has released a satellite image showing a boundary line that was drawn unilaterally in an attempt to enforce border demarcation. Major General Chheng Khun, Deputy Director of Cambodia’s Department of Geography, clarified that the red and blue lines shown in the image do not represent the official boundary line between Cambodia and Thailand as agreed upon by both nations. He stated that the Thai military’s deputy spokesperson has intentionally misled the public, creating confusion and misunderstanding. Major General Chheng further explained that the "Field Plan Showing the Terrain and Location of Boundary Pillars," presented and circulated by the Thai Deputy Military Spokesperson, the Sa Kaeo Provincial Administration, and Thai media outlets, is merely a field plan showing the location of boundary pillars. It is not a map or legal document that defines the official boundary between the two countries. Since the ceasefire agreement, Thailand has continuously provoked incidents along the border. It has attempted to lay barbed wire on Cambodian territory, including near villagers' homes, without any mutual consent. These actions show a clear disregard for international law and the ceasefire agreement, which was facilitated by Malaysia and mediated by U.S. President Donald Trump at midnight on July 28, 2025. The Thai military has shown no intention of honoring the agreement and has repeatedly acted to encroach upon and violate Cambodia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. Their actions are both aggressive and shameful. Meanwhile, 18 Cambodian soldiers who were arrested by the Thai military on the day of the ceasefire remain illegally detained. According to reports, Thai forces used deceptive tactics to capture them. This clearly demonstrates Thailand's unwillingness to comply with the ceasefire agreement or respect international law. Second, UNSC called both parties to calm down but thailand ignored it. Third, China proposed to act as mediator to ceasefire, but Thailand rejected by sticking to bilateral by keeps attacking cambodia. Four, Donal J Trump called to both governments to end fighting and come to ceasefire, but thailand rejected. Finally, Anwar the Malaysian PM with pressure from US on tariff negotiation along with China forced thailand to come to the ceasefire. However, the Thai military has continued to break ceasefire from the beginning. Why does Thailand believe only bilateral negotiations are necessary? It seems as though Thailand aims to keep Cambodia isolated in a closed-door approach, exerting high pressure and proactive influence based on its economic and military strengths. By doing so, Thailand may be using distorted information and shifting blame to conceal the true situation, with the objective of annexing Cambodian territories and cultural properties through its unilateral map (1/50,000). Therefore, Thailand violated its own MOU43 which included only the 1:200,000 map, which is recognized internationally under international law and several international institutions. Furthermore, Thailand created a new 1:50,000 map after MOU43. This is sufficient evidence to file a case at the international level, proving that Thailand has illegally encroached upon Cambodian territories. Thailand is violating Cambodian sovereignty by using the 1:50,000 fake scale map drawn unilaterally by Thai army. We have the 1:200,000 map, which is an internationally legal map according to the Franco- Siamese Convention of 1904 and the Franco-Siamese Treaty of 1907, accepted by several Thai successive governments and which is recognized by several international conventions ( lately October, 23, 1991 Paris peace Accords signed by Thailand as well) and deposited at the United Nations.
