I feel that the canonical endings of Hollow Knight are the ones connected to the Pantheon of Gods. In the latest Silksong ending, the shadow of the Hollow Knight/Vessel doesn’t appear, unlike in the “Dream No More” ending. Instead, we see the Knight together with their siblings and the transformation of the Lord of Shadows. This could suggest that the Hollow Knight/Vessel remains in Hallownest, weakened and missing an arm due to the infection. 🥹

What if the real point of Hollow Knight is that no one can ever be completely empty? Even a Vessel made to be hollow, with no mind, no will, no voice can’t fully escape what it means to be alive: to live is, inevitably, to feel. The Knight ends up showing that there’s always a spark of something inside, no matter how much you try to erase it. And in Silksong, with Hornet facing her own path, that idea sticks around: nobody, no matter how they were made, is ever truly void.
