Children shouldn’t know what political affiliation or sexuality their teacher is associated with, the children should know what it means to feel love, kindness, and respect through their teachings! We should learn to love everyone no matter what they do outside of a professional space (as long as they aren’t hurting anyone)

I don't trust places that have a whole bunch of representation on the decor. It's meaningless. The amount of settings with all that where I have still experienced major issues with marginalisation is unreal. I teach inclusion to health professionals and tell them that that decor is an easy way out of making sure you're genuinely inclusive. You know what matters? Attitudes. Genuine support. Real understanding.

I also have spina bifida and I appreciate you talking about it!!! In 5th grade i had a teacher not allow me to go to the bathroom, I also had an accident and peed on myself. I was so embarrassed and ashamed. I wish I had a more kind teacher in that moment! Luckily my mom was a fantastic advocate and had my doctor give me a note so I never even had to ask again.

A kid pees in my room and I’m asking what’s wrong and reminding them they can leave without permission if I say no and they are going to have an accident. I have had students that pees on purpose due to mental health issues and guess what? Never berated them. Kids don’t want to have accidents and if they do there is a good reason. All behavior is communication.

I teach fourth grade and I do an All About Me project the first week and I mention my wife as part of my family. I do not have flags or rainbows. I had a girl come to me a few years ago and say “I like girls” and I simply said “me too”. She had the biggest smile! She was ten so who knows what she meant by it but it didn’t need to be a thing.
