I hope no one hates Kotoyuki's character because of the ending... Unfortunately, the story of Silent Hill can’t truly be romantic. Kotoyuki really does love Hinako, but in order to be with her, those suffocating rules and traditions have to be carried out. And well, even in Japanese folklore, when a fox falls in love, it can never reach that love. In the true ending, Hinako doesn’t end up with Kotoyuki. And that’s exactly what Silent Hill is about—otherwise, Kotoyuki clearly protected Hinako and showed his love. But in the end, Kotoyuki symbolizes forced marriage, the loss of one’s true self, and the acceptance of imposed obligation 💔 ( But the part where he seems like a supportive husband and what he says in that letter makes my heart tremble..Even if a traditional marriage happens, there must be a man like that for that marriage... otherwise, that marriage is useless.🤣😭 Kotoyuki didn’t control Hinako out of malice or scheming; he was also a tragic figure trapped in that same system of manipulation and obligation. In one of the endings, it’s even implied that he has to restrain his own power so that he doesn’t harm Hinako, and he allows Shu and Hinako to live and escape. So> what exactly is the power of the Kyūbi? The Kyūbi (九尾) or Nine-Tailed Fox > comes from Japanese folklore and East Asian mythology (China.Korea.Japan). In Japanese legends' the Kyūbi no Kitsune is a supernatural and powerful being that grows more tails as it ages and gains wisdom (up to nine tails). When it reaches nine tails' it attains the peak of its power and can act almost like a god. In some stories the Kyūbi is shown as a demonic and dangerous creature that brings corruption and destruction. But in other traditions (especially in China) it is sometimes portrayed as a wise or even protective being. In Silent Hill f >Kotoyuki’s connection to the Kyūbi legend shows that his love and obligation toward Hinako were not entirely his own choice.he was influenced by this ancient power and the traditions tied to it. This means that in the bad endings, it may have affected Hinako’s mind.

((Spoilers)) If we gone through the true ending, we see how much he was also manipulated/brainwashed by his own ancestor to do all those things. Not saying he’s right, just that he wasn’t exactly the bad guy here. Just like how Shu isn’t the good one either. He literally was the one who gave her those pills knowing its side effects.

you guys should understand that 99% of ASIAN women have to go through this 50 year ish ago. Thats why we have silent hill f, the purpose of this game is to protest the inhumane and disrespect women have back then where there's lack of rights for us. Please stop accusing "grooming/minor" etc because THIS IS EXACTLY WHY THE GAME HAPPENS. Please understand that this is a part of Asian culture and stop with the accuse.. omg

I kinda like the ending where Fox Man leave Hinako to decide her own way of living but also waiting for her to come on her own will back to him.

Felix The Puss :
With the "true" ending, you understand that Kotoyuki and Hinako were both victims of societal expectations of 1960s Japan. In the Otherworld, he keeps telling Hinako "You're doing well", "The next ritual will be the most painful"... As if he's already lived through these 'rituals', through this pain. This is confirmed by the fact that he is one with his mask, just like when Hinako had her mask put on her. The mask, the fox arm, the scar on her back, all grotesque symbols of what she does not want to become. It looks horrific for us, because being a bride is horrific for Hinako. To conclude, I wouldn't say Kotoyuki is a good person, but I wouldn't say he is a bad person either. He was just conditioned by his family for years. In the "true" ending, he understands this, and just like Hinako, he realizes that one's free will is what makes us humans, that happiness can't be found when decisions are forced upon us.

remember while he doesnt physically abuse her, he ALLOWS her to be abused, the mask, the branding, the whispers and jeers from the fox clan, treating her as a subordinate. While he too is a victim of patriarchal thinking he still is a perpetrator in allowing her to suffer just for his family's sake. Plus in the good ending he even acknowledged while he absolutely admires her, he's uncertain if he truly loved her
