@enjolidesiree: See, I was a Gabriella one year in high school and then a Kelsi the next so this isn’t one Sharpay standing up for another Sharpay. I can just acknowledge how ridiculous it all is because again, I can suspend my disbelief until you piss me off. Also, don’t even get me started on the potential nepotism in this movie. #highschoolmusical
Not to mention that we never get to see EITHER MUSICAL!!!!!

i didn’t realize until a couple years ago that this whole movie is about AUDITIONING for a musical and not the actual musical 😭

Maybe the spring musical didn’t exist and that was part of the insult to the audition?

high school graduations are typically in June (though it might be different in New Mexico, idk)

If they cast by January 30th, and let’s say the show runs March 1-3 or something, then they could have a month for rehearsals. Rehearsing every day, definitely doable, since it seems like they are an advanced high school theatre program. Auditions and callbacks can overlap with the spring musical, but even if they don’t and they cast spring musical by March 30th, then they could have a month for rehearsals and open the spring musical May 1-3 or something.

So hear me out, is it explicit that the New Year’s Eve vacation leads right into the next part of the movie? I feel like when I was a kid I interpreted as they meet on new year, the spring passes, and Gabriella is a new student at the start of the following school year. But I might be misremembering the details.

I noticed the timeline in HSM3 doesn’t make sense either, in regards to college applications, prom, etc.

Some schools don’t get out till late June so it’s possible that the winter starts in January and finishes in march amd the the spring is April to June

at my high school the "spring" musical always auditions right after getting back from winter break- show was in beginning-mid march. so january-march for their winter musical and march-may for their spring musical maybe?

I just assume she told her that to get her off the stage and there definitely wasn’t going to be a spring musical

Right? Like the big(ger) spring musical in my high school ALWAYS had auditions/callbacks the week or so before Christmas break (in fact it was tradition for the director to post the cast list on the last day before break lol). We had the show mid to late March AND still had time for Cabaret Night the first Friday of May (remember I went to NY Public School so we graduated end of June). Meanwhile our fall show was in mid to late November (sometimes even being the week before Thanksgiving) so we had auditions in the second or third week of September 😅

My high school cast our musical right before winter break, the show was in mid-March & then they fit another play in before the end of the school year in June, so it’s not THAT far off

my high school would do three productions in the school year: a fall musical, a winter stage play, then a spring musical. each one would be two days for auditions (three depending on if it was a musical), about a month or month and a half for rehearsals (that includes dress rehearsal) then the show premiere. I'm just surprised they (HSM) had call backs two weeks after the first auditions.

Winter ends mid March. Springs ends mid June. Where I’m from school doesn’t close till mid-late June. I think this would make the timeline work
