I’ve actually come to argue with the commenter, who decided fear had to be the only way for the fruit to work that way? Maybe Big Mom uses fear because it comes easy for her as a powerful pirate paired with the authority over her children, but it could be anything that makes the victim wholly subservient, hence how Caramel’s influence made her so powerful.

wait, I just got the idea that maybe the soul power that Mother Caramel had to use her fruit could have come from the kids she was trafficking? The soul power takes away years of life energy, so children would have the most to give, and if you're the only adult in an orphan's life, it would be easy to make them so afraid you could take their life from them. yikes.

Just a bit of head cannon. (since we don’t know yet BlackBeards intentions when he went after Boa trying to claim the Love-Love fruit. But if I’m remembering correctly her DF works based on strong emotions so those affected don’t necessarily need to find the user attractive they just need to have a strong emotional reaction case-in-point S-Hawk who uses her ability not because others find her attractive but because they find her adorable.) I’m curious if Big Mom’s DF works the same way. it doesn’t need to be fear that allows the user to rip souls ( that’s just what she uses based on her demeanor and status) but others could use different methods

i wanna say that big mom and boa DF are not necesary affected by fear/love. they affect people based on making someone will bend. the will is always the main topic around everything and you can bend someone will based on lust/cuteness (boa seraphin worked on cuteness) and fear
