Aurora’s Story 🩷 Please meet Little Lady Aurora, who is just 6 years old and braved the shave before going into isolation this week to start chemotherapy treatment. This little princess has a rare genetic condition called STAT1 gain of function, inherited from her mum. This condition affects the immune system, making it hard to fight infections and causing other serious health complications. For people with this condition, life is tough and often cut short — the average life expectancy is around 30 years. Aurora’s mum explained that she herself is living on “borrowed time,” and knows first-hand how difficult life with this condition can be medically and emotionally. Because of this, Aurora’s family made the incredibly hard decision to go ahead with a stem cell transplant. It’s risky — with only one documented case like Aurora’s in the UK — BUT it’s her best chance of a cure and a much longer, healthier life. Despite everything she faces, Aurora is still her funny, cheeky, and strong-willed self. This wig and turban journey is a bright and positive moment in the middle of something so challenging. Little Lady Locks used Aurora’s natural hair to create a customised stitch turban, as she didn’t want a full wig at this moment in time. When her mum told us she was going to shave her own hair off first, all of our hearts broke. What a brave mother and daughter. Although the condition was hereditary, we believe that your strength and courage have also been passed down to your beautiful princess and we saw that today.
