I’m an expanded functions dental assistant (both prosthetic & restorative) who works for a private family practice out in east TN; we do a wide range of treatment (basically everything in all fields dentistry minus orthognathic surgery). Our lab of choice these days is Dandy, so that’s how I discovered you on their YouTube and started following your story over here on TikTok. I just wanna say doing all that by 30 is very impressive. I didn’t even start my dental career until I was that age and that was just over 10 years ago. I too have always had a passion for teaching (even taught DA school part time for a while & still did chairside fulltime but it just got to be too demanding where I never got to see my family so I had to let the teaching go, but I’m still full-time. EFDA ). I don’t think the average person could ever imagine how vast dentistry actually is and it’s great to see someone that is staying on the edge of modern dentistry (which you know is always evolving) and has experience with actual patients (and all that comes along with the complexities of tx all the way to different personalities) yet you still take time to teach other up-and-coming dentist at the same time. I feel there is a huge separation between the Board of Dentistry in the educational aspect and what actually happens chair side. I can’t tell you how many new dentist I see coming fresh out of dental school that are like “deer in the headlights” when it comes time to start practicing for first time w/o an instructor (safety net). If I had a $ for ever time I’ve heard: “school never prepared me for this” or “we didn’t learn any of this in school”. From my rookie doctors, they all seem to have the same testimony of having a bad experience in school where they get these power-tripping ancient instructors (who should have retired ages ago) that think they know it all (huge egos) but may have never actually even been chair side with an real pt much less stay close minded to old techniques only. Glad to see you’re changing the game. 😎🙏🤓
