You’re looking for a therapist not a buddy, your therapist doesn’t need to know everything about your culture, it is as much of a journey for them s it will be for you. All you need is an understanding, non judgemental, trained therapist

I totally feel you. It's so hard to find a good therapist who really gets LGBTQ issues. Honestly, I think picking a therapist is like shopping for an event: you find someone for this problem, and it's okay if you need to find someone new for the next one.

You can ask her approach! I love when a client does that bc it means you know what feels confortable and you say it. And I can't emphasize enough how important is that for therapy

As a gay man, I had to explain to my elderly straight female therapist that I saw my bfs best friend hooking up with my bfs r*pist in a darkroom and that I was blamed for it 🫠

Don't want to disappoint you, but there are, for sure, also gay therapists who are not familiar with all this! 😉 But if this is important to you to have a gay therapist, start with some LGBTQ+ community websites and ask directly there for contacts.

She won’t. And she’ll try to explain from heterosexual perspective of the discipline and judge sometimes but you might not be able to recognize. Psychologists are not reliable but the psychology behind makes sense,and as long as it works for you,mission accomplished.

I live in the Midwest of the USA. I finally found a great therapist. He is str8 but from Brazil and he knows how to use metaphors when talking to me. So maybe find a therapist who knows how it feels like to be a stranger in a foreign land? 🤷🏻♂
