I love these friends. Their company and presence is a joy. As I get older, I realise that trust is essentially the bedrock of a long lasting relationship, so feeling safe to be yourself is essential. And safety comes from trust. And the opposite is also true. When you feel the need to always show up and perform, where you feel drained after the conversations and where your social battery dies out every time you meet or spend time with these individuals, then the fundamental trust hasn’t been established.
