Middle school teacher, we don't do big flashy shows, but we're also not given a penny for our program. We do an improv show to kick off the year and at the end the audience votes with their dollars to the team they think won. Then ticket sales. As a one person everything, it's really hard to do a lot on top of everything else.

Parent run fundraisers for snacks and can drinks and yes, add space in our programs. Baayork Lee runs our program so she reaches out to local establishments that’s she is friendly with as well.

Our revenue comes from participation fees (subsidized by boosters for anyone whose family can't afford them), sponsorship ads, program shout-outs, concessions, ticket add-ons, and (of course) ticket sales. Ticket sales are the biggest percentage of our revenue.

All of the above but one of the biggest fundraiser over the past 3 years has been a staff/student production. All proceeds ( tickets sales, refreshments, merchandise ) all goes to support the spring musical. It’s a big endeavor, but it works.

We don’t do traditional fundraising (choir and band sell cookie dough, etc)- we sell break a leg a grams at the show (with Crumbl cookies- they give us a good bulk discount)- our shows are self-sustaining- we don’t get a budget but what we make on the show stays in our account (a big musicals profits can help pay for more obscure play). We’re also allowed to go in the negative (we knew we would lose money on Mary Poppins because we flew Bert and Mary) but we had a plan to make it back within two years.

We don’t do program ads. most local businesses had stoped taking ads. ticket sales, Consessions, merch, is how we make as much money as we can to put on show as well as give theater experiences, like seeing a Broadway show. we wanted to do a tour with you but we would have run another fundraiser to afford it 😬

I’m a theatre teacher and a theatre parent. I get zero funding from my school for my theatre department. We sell concessions at some of sporting events. We’ve done Nothing Bundt Cake sales. Ticket sales are the main source. The selling ads thing is not getting a lot of revenue. My oldest asked 11 businesses and not one got back to her. It sucked because selling ads is a way to lower our own parental cost.
