This weeks HISTORY…. The Bombing of Hiroshima. On August 6, 1945, during the final stages of World War II, the United States dropped the first atomic bomb used in warfare on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The weapon, nicknamed “Little Boy,” was released from the B-29 bomber Enola Gay at 8:15 a.m. Within seconds, the uranium bomb detonated about 600 meters above the city, unleashing an immense fireball and shockwave. Roughly 70,000 people died instantly, and tens of thousands more perished in the weeks and months that followed due to burns, injuries, and radiation sickness. Hiroshima was chosen as a target for its military importance and its relatively untouched urban center, which allowed the bomb’s destructive power to be fully measured. The explosion flattened about two-thirds of the city and created a mushroom cloud that became a grim symbol of nuclear warfare. Three days later, a second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, leading Japan to announce its surrender on August 15, 1945, effectively ending the war. The bombings remain deeply controversial: some argue they shortened the war and saved lives, while others condemn them as unnecessary and inhumane. Today, Hiroshima stands as a global symbol of peace and nuclear disarmament. . . . . . #mysteryvshistory #historytok #historytiktok #wwii #war
