the thing that i hope for is for her biological parents to understand and respect her decisions. despite how badly they neglected her, during the incident of gas poisoning, her own mother was the only one who remembered her existance. as neglectful as she is, as they were. hopfully such neglect comes with maturity to learn to let go and love her from a far if thats what xu yan wants. the gas incident proves to me that no mother truly doesnt love their child. it just so happens that there are mothers who cant be decent mothers to their children despitethe mother's love being there. i just hope xu yan and her mother gets a heartwarming scene and a hug: where xu yan realises that at least her mother does love her. she just couldnt love xu yan in ways she needed to be loved. so far of 6 episodes: her mother, though neglectful, her actions were made by the perception of xu yan can do things on her own but her sister (qiao lin) cant. each action was made with the judgement of "qiao lin needs me, xu yan can manage on her own". such flawed mindset is what led to her neglect as a mother. the father is just horrible. its because he doesnt see xu yan as often as qiao lin and doesnt try to engage with her at all is what causes him to subconsciously forget her existance. that alone is proof of the absence of maternal love as a father. the gas poisoning and his irrational reaction when it comes to xu yan are my evidence. he refuses to listen to her or try to understand her. while her own mother tries to understand her and is able to get hints: "did we treat her that badly?" kind of hints. for all i know, xu yan being filial to her father even when he doesnt deserve it builds up nothing but guilt.
