Hindi ko alam kung anong mas masakit—yung gulat nila o yung pagtitig nila sa akin na parang may double meaning. “Ang galing mo pa rin,” Angelo whispered behind me. “Honestly, bagay kayo ni Jeo maging rivals or partner.” dagdag pa niya na may kasamang tawa. I didn’t answer. I just rolled my eyes. Jeo’s POV I don’t know why I kept staring at her. I didn’t expect it. She always acts like she doesn’t care—pero the truth is, may gusto siyang sabihin pero hindi niya lang masabi-sabi. I wanted to ask her but I stopped myself. Bakit ko ba gustong malaman? She’s not my business. Celeste leaned toward me, “You’re still number one, Jeo. Don’t worry.” “I’m not worried.” I coldly said. Pero hindi ko mapigilang lingunin ulit si Y/n. I noticed the way she pressed her lips tight, the way she avoided everyone’s eyes. She wasn’t just “not interested”—she was running away from something. From that day, the air in the classroom shifted. She was walking fast, shoulders tense, clutching her bag straps like lifelines. I shouldn’t care. Pero why does it look like she’s trying so hard just to stay standing? Celeste suddenly slipped her arm into mine. “Jeo, bukas, ako partner mo sa lab activity, okay?” I forced a nod. “Sure.” Pero my eyes were still trailing Y/n’s retreating figure. Ruth’s POV I caught up with Y/n outside. “Hey, you okay?” She scoffed. “I’m fine. People just… like bringing up things that don’t matter anymore.” I wanted to tell her it matters—that she matters—but I knew she wouldn’t believe me. So instead, I just smiled. “You know, Jeo was staring at you a lot kanina.” She froze. “What? No. Don’t start with that, Ruth.” But the way her voice cracked? It told me she noticed too. Y/n’s POV — Next Day, at the Science Lab The teacher paired us up. Celeste with Angelo, Ruth with another classmate. Which left me— “With Jeo.” My chest tightened. “Let’s just get this over with,” I muttered. He didn’t talk at first, just started arranging the materials. Cold, as usual. But then— “Why did you stop?” I froze. “What?” “You were valedictorian, right? Why’d you stop trying?” He said, almost hesitant. I laughed bitterly. “Why? Para saan ba? Grades don’t protect you from people calling you names. From looking in the mirror and hating what you see. From.. body shaming.” Silence. His hand, gripping the test tube, faltered. I turned away. “See? It’s just a useless thing to even know.” But for the first time, I saw something in Jeo’s eyes—something breaking.
