phlebitis is a real complication. I think many practitioners forget that

Hah! I can’t count how many times I’ve said an IV or cannula was hurting and the reply has been that it’s working properly…until it wasn’t.

My phosphate IV was leaking into my arm! The pain was horrendous and my arm swelled! Nurse didn't believe me until I panicked and told her my arm is literally burning up and swelling up! it was awful. Thankfully only hurt for 3 days afterwards and no lasting damage!

After years of my vains always collapsing when I have an IV, I finally found out I have EDS. Does not stop them trying to put it into the back of my hand.

Yeah but over time the blown vein heals right? I have rolling and collapsing veins so they blow a lot when I'm getting blood drawn but that's fine right?

I asked for mine to be taken out, the back of my hand was swelling up! Totally ignored me and ended up with phlebitis, on top of chemo I wasn't impressed.

I complained mine hurt and was starting to track but they didn’t wanna change it because I have difficult veins and it was hard to get fitted in the first place

omg I've had phlebitis 3 times. once was readmitted due to infection in the cannula site. 2nd time delayed discharge because of again phlebitis causing infection. and 3rd I wasn't listened to and attempted to self discharge because of the pain. they changed it reluctantly to prevent me discharging myself

I am so glad you posted this. They acted like I was a huge baby when I asked to change my IV site in labor.

My grandmother was in hospital very sick and had dementia, they kept the same IV in for 3 weeks around the area there was so much inflammation and redness. She kept crying out in pain, I've never heard her cry out so much when they took it out off her hand. 💔

I had an iv in my arm and blood kept going up the tube which I know can happen but it was constant and the nurse said it was fine. When I was discharged and they took it out IT SPURTED LIKE AN ARTERY. BLOOD EVERYWHERE 😧

the first IV i ever got was so painful that they literally gave me painkillers and an ice pack for it for several days…instead of just placing it somewhere else better…..
