@margaritamilidakis: sugar does not lead to hyperactivity or children freaking out. it leads to parents freaking out about their children having sugar. #Science #parenting #sugar #hyperactive
As this comment section shows again: People don't change their minds when presented with opposing evidence.

I'm Italian. This sugar thing never existed in Italy, it's not a thing at all. Parents will tell you not to eat too much sugary stuff because it will hurt your stomach, but nothing else.

yeah, so you've never met ADHD adults who cut out sugar/carbs and suddenly don't need stimulants anymore.

still don't give them sugar. numerous studies confirm early sugar means much higher risk of other issues down the line

This study you refer is from 1995 - a lot has changed since and it’s been nuanced. Kids will not get permanently hyper on sugar, no, but kids will get sugar rash and consequently sugar crashes afterwards. And everyone who has children or have been in contact with children knows it..

Statistics... So on average nothing, which means that a lot of kids actually do get unruly. Ask around with parents, because that is real data.

I do get a sugar rush and I am 34 years old with ADHD. 🥲 But in general, my mood elevates after eating. 🤔
When you eat, especially carbs or sugar, your blood sugar rises and your brain gets more glucose, which gives quick energy and a temporary lift. Eating also releases dopamine and serotonin, which boost mood. With ADHD, the dopamine system is more sensitive, so a sugar rush or any kind of reward is felt more strongly. And it’s not just sugar: protein, fat, and even the act of eating itself (taste, satiety, comfort) all activate the brain’s reward pathways. So if I had a child and they were genetically like me, I would be careful with sweets. 😅

So what is happening then? My kid doesn't get hyper from sugar but they get more aggressive. (And so do I) Every time my kid eats something sugary before bedtime my kid will refuse to go to bed, they'll scream, bite, kick and do everything in their power to not get into bed and bedtime takes HOURS. But when they do not have something sugary before bed it's no problem going to bed. They will just lay down, talk about our day and then fall asleep within an hour. So we made a rule to not have sugar a few hours before bedtime and it has worked.

Yup, that’s why it’s so important how we see our children, if we expect them to be bad we’re gonna see them as bad and eventually they are gonna see themselves like that.

Anecdotal evidence would say different. I even as an adult would feel the energy boost of sugar so I can't see why my kiddos wouldn't 🤔 My Baba has little to no sugar every day and when she gets orange juice at her Nana's you can definitely see the difference, versus when she just has water. 🤷
