From his youth, he was known for bravery and wisdom, and when the Yousafzai tribe faced oppression under the Timurids, he rose as their chief and led them in a great migration from Kabul towards Pakhtunkhwa. He first settled in Bajaur and Swat, where he fought and defeated the Swatis, and later expelled the Dilazaks from Peshawar valley, thus establishing Yousafzai power across Swat, Bajaur, Dir, Buner, Malakand, Mardan, Swabi, and Nowshera. With courage and unity, he built a strong tribal state and chose Alladand Dheri in Malakand as its capital, making it the political and cultural center of the Yousafzais. Even the Mughal founder Babur, who mentions him in the Baburnama, could not subdue his people.
