you're going to a place where everyone is big and extravagant, you shouldn't make yourself small and invisible at an event like that. you're gorgeous, and your heritage is amazing, you shouldn't dim your shine just because of nerves. you'll go and see that the overthinking is just that, overthinking, and I feel like you'd end up regretting not wearing it just because you've been imagining it for so long!

Take the backup dress! As an anxious girl myself, having the backup there will only make you feel more confident when choosing to wear your original outfit. Then your mind won’t be racing thinking about the “what ifs” of it all

IMO pack the back up; it doesn't hurt to be prepared. BUT I think a sari would look stunning and is a real moment to stand out in a beautiful way. If people are going to be looking anyway then give them a show of culture and grace❤️You got this and you deserve to take up space.

If this helps at all: imagine going to a big event and being able to wear a piece that belongs to your mum. Put the culture and the fear of being othered aside for a moment - by wearing your mum's sari, you aren't just representing your culture, but celebrating and showing your love and admiration for your mother 💖. If this were me, I'd find it grounding to have a piece of my mum's clothing with me 💖
